Why browser games need no download

Modern browsers ship with everything a small game needs: a canvas for drawing, WebGL for 3D, the Web Audio API for sound, and touch and gamepad input. A game written against those APIs is just a web page. Nothing is installed, nothing runs outside the tab, and closing the tab removes it completely. Progress, where a game keeps any, is stored in the browser's local storage on your device, which is why none of the games below ask you to sign up.

1. Fast Lane, a one-button racing game

8. Love Stitch, a two-handed rhythm game

Steer plum threads with your left hand and rose threads with your right so their heads land inside falling rings, while a red dot tears anything it touches. Are free browser games safe?

A browser game cannot reach outside the tab it runs in, so the risk is mostly about the site rather than the game: pop-up ads, fake download buttons and sign-up walls. The games here have none of those. There are no downloads offered, no accounts, and nothing to install. If a site tells you a browser game needs a download or a plugin to run, close it.
