About the Solar System Quiz
Eighteen questions on the planets, moons and other bodies of our solar system. You will be asked for the largest planet, the hottest, the one that spins on its side, the biggest volcano and the name of Jupiter's giant storm, among others.
Answers are names such as Jupiter, Uranus or Olympus Mons. Type and press enter; the first three letters are available as a hint. With the Game toggle off, the page becomes a compact solar system fact sheet.
Frequently asked questions
Which planet is the hottest?
Venus, despite Mercury being closer to the Sun. Venus's thick carbon-dioxide atmosphere traps heat, keeping the surface above 450 degrees Celsius.
Which planet rotates on its side?
Uranus. Its axis is tilted about 98 degrees, so it effectively rolls around the Sun.
Is Pluto counted as a planet here?
No. The quiz follows the current definition with eight planets; Pluto is a dwarf planet.
